Are you someone dreaming to become a fashion model? Looking for ways to become one? Don’t you worry by the end of this article you will have enough guidance in your hand to become a fashion model.
Let us have a look
Take Some Basic Snapshots
In the beginning, when you first enter any modelling agency the only thing they will ask you is your pictures. There is no need to submit professional photographs. All they expect from you is a nice face shot (smiling and not smiling), left and right profiles of your face and body, a full length shot and a back shot. Also, you do not need to wear high-fashion clothes in the pictures all you need is simple denim jeans and a tank top or a normal white t-shirt. If you are comfortable in submitting bikini shots, you can also submit those.
In case of male fashion models, the modelling agency is in search of men with a good physique, so it is recommended that you submit at least one photo in swim trunks or boxer shorts, or in jeans without a shirt.
Get Evaluated by a Professional Model Agent or Scout
Most of the people wish to become a model because their friends and families have encouraged them saying that ‘you are so beautiful, you should be a model’ or they have been a beautiful girl and a handsome guy of their high school. Few had even crowned as winner in a local modelling contest. That is an amazing start but is not something the agencies are looking for.
It is very much essential that you get your modelling potential evaluated by an experienced modelling agency rather than wasting your time and money by doing things yourself. This can be little tricky as it is difficult to determine whether an agency has the potential, experience and enough knowledge to make you a model?
Well, if the agency is transforming you into a better person and introducing you to something more than what you know. And if they are doing your photoshoots properly and not misusing your photographs or leading you towards wrong directions, then that modelling agency is perfect for you.
Get as Much Exposure as Possible
Many of the agencies specialize and focus in a particular field of modelling. For instances, few agencies focus only on high-fashion (editorial) shoots while there are few agencies who only specialize in commercial models, or plus-size, petite, or child models. If the agency you are in is unable to represent you then don’t be disappointed. As the only important thing is that you get noticed by as many agents as possible and on a routine basis.
If you live in one of the high fashion markets, then there is a possibility that you may be able to attend an open call or go-see at the agency. And if you live in a low fashion market then the best way to get exposure is by submitting your portfolio to as many agencies as possible. If you are wondering why the term ‘market’ is used in the fashion industry, we will guide with that in the next section.
This can be very costly and time-consuming, especially if you are making copies of all your photos and then mailing them. If you want to reduce cost and save your time then you can mail your pictures to the agencies. But, this is like taking the risk because agencies get pictures of thousands of males and females who wish to become a model. So, it might happen that they do not even notice your pictures due to the flooding emails.
To increase the chances of getting signed by high-end fashion brands, you need to get in touch with people who are connected with many well-known agencies and have experience in the fashion industry.
